Quickly Change Amazon RDS Master User’s Password

  1. Log in to AWS Console here.
  2. Select RDS from the services available in Console.

  3. Right click on the respective RDS instance (for which you aim to change the Master User’s Password) and click on Modify.RDS Options
  4. A Dialog box will get opened as shown below                                                                          Properties Dialog Box
  5. Find a text box labelled ‘New Master Password’ -> Enter your new password
  6. Check  Apply Immediately (#optional), If not checked, the password change will take place in next maintenance window.
  7. Click Continue.

    Make sure all other values remain untouched/unchanged/unaltered/intact except for the password field which you are about to change.

    Actually, this didn’t change rdsamin password. It changed the password for my username which I had set up. Any ideas?

      yes it changes the password for root user if your RDS instance is MYSQL,and password change take a good amount of time(I don’t remember exactly how much).
